Linux Mint Freezing

Published on: February 15, 2026

I recently installed Linux Mint 22.3 Zena on a brand new ASUS ROG Strix G815LP laptop. The installation went smoothly, or so I thought. Booted up after the install and everything was working, even bluetooth connecting to my Airpods Pro 3 after changing to ControllerMode = bredrin /etc/bluetooth/main.conf.

About an hour into customizing the settings and adding some software, the system freezes. The keyboard, usb wireless mouse and touchpad were unresponsive. The only thing to do was a hard reset. I checked all the logs and reports. Nothing.

Rebooted and was able to work on the laptop for several hours before it froze again. Off to the internet to do some research. I read and tried everything I could get my hands on. None of it worked. I kept rebooting but the time between reboots was getting longer and longer. I finally shut it down for the night.

The next morning, I woke up, booted the laptp and noticed an update was available for the alsa-lib package. Installed it and my system froze within 5 minutes. Hard booted yet again. Restored from Timeshift and I haven’t had a freeze since. Needless to say, this package is now on hold.

Serendipitous that this happened. I hope it helps someone.
